A Rise In Temporary Staff Hiring Expected As Consumers Flock To Shops For The Coming Festive Season

As the Covid restrictions are dying down, consumers are returning to the pre-Covid normal of in-store shopping. To combat the rising demand, experts are predicting a rise in the hiring of temp staff.

Usually, a few industries such as FMCG, electronic goods retail stores, entertainment, and hospitality observe a peak in their consumer levels during the festive season. More than 500,000 short-term jobs are expected to be created this festive season alone.

These jobs would mostly be for retail job titles including store promoter and street salesperson for consumer durables and electronics, and for service engineers and call center operators.

Temp staff hiring has already started in many places as employers consider the festive season to start from August 15 and to go on until mid-January the next year. These temp staff hiring spikes are not only confined to metro cities. Most tier-II cities will also see an uprise.

Large seasonal hiring is expected mostly for the hospitality sector. Other than that, e-commerce, logistics, and delivery sectors too will see increased hiring rates as with every year.

The hiring rates are expected to increase by about 20-25 percent for the e-commerce sector. In the retail and consumer goods sectors, the temp staff hiring rates may even increase by 30 percent more than the usual non-seasonal hiring peaks.
