A solid resume is coming your way!

Stuck with your job application? Not sure how to bring out your qualifications on paper? Resume Mansion’s certified professional resume writers can show you how.

Every day, we help numerous job seekers optimize their job searching materials, be it resumes, cover letters, or LinkedIn profiles. Since we have several years of experience in the resume industry, we can teach you just how to take your resume from a solid two to a ten. Here’s what you need to do with your resume:

Understand your purpose

There are different reasons to write a resume. Depending on your purpose, the nature of your resume will differ. First, identify why you are writing a resume. Is it to apply for a job, scholarship, promotion, or contract? Narrowing down your goals will help you create a better resume.

Back up your skills

Mentioning 15 different skills on your resume is useless if you don’t back them up using real life examples. Try to bring out your skills through the skills section to show potential employers how you have used them to achieve great results.

Make it searchable

Many employers use digital databases to search for job seekers. Search queries are run on these databases based on specific keywords. If your resume doesn’t display the right keywords relevant to the job, you might never come up in search results.

Use a lot of keywords

As we showed before, keywords are important for your resume. Identify the right keywords for the position using online job boards, job descriptions, and related material. Use these keywords to describe your experience and qualifications on your resume.

Highlight your value

There will be many other candidates with the same kind of qualifications as you. Set yourself apart from them by highlighting your unique value proposition on your resume. Show potential employers what you bring to the table using quantified achievements.

Don’t get creative with titles

It’s good to get creative on your resume, but not with the section titles. Understand that your resume is scanned by a bot that will not get your sense of humor. If you use creative titles for the section headings, the ATS might not read the information correctly.

Proofread multiple times

It’s very easy to make a few spelling and grammar errors when you create a resume. Read your resume carefully to check for errors. Pay attention to job titles, company names, dates, and contact details as these are the elements that are the most likely to be misspelled or autocorrected into a different word by your device.

Write good bullet points

The bullet points in the career history section are the most important elements of your resume. These are the sentences that capture the essence of your career. There are many formulae you can use to write effective bullet points.

Pay attention to typography

The font choices you make will end up affecting the readability of your resume. If you use a font style that is unintelligible in smaller sizes, your resume will fail. Ensure that the font you choose looks good in print. Don’t let the smallest text on your resume go below size 10.
