Enhance your blogging resume with these skills

Blogging is an awesome career if you are an avid creator. You get to explore hundreds of different topics with your blog, and also get exposed to different experiences, even if they are through a screen. Building and developing a successful blog takes immense talent and dedication. If you are applying for a job in blogging, these are the skills that I recommend you add to your resume:

Social Media Strategy

Awareness of social media strategies will be a beneficial skill to emphasize on your resume. But don’t just list “Social media strategy” on your resume and call it a day. Back up your skills with quantifiable data. Some quantifiable results you can add to your blogging resume to emphasize your skills are:

  • An instance where you have prepared a successful social media strategy for a brand
  • Sales you have generated via paid and organic social media strategies
  • Competitions, promotions, and creative activities you have used to drive up customer engagement
  • The number of times you have sourced opportunities for backlinks and references from high-authority sites
  • Content you have planned, generated, scheduled, and shared on social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok.

Statistics

Blogging is not just about writing the perfect article or creating compelling content. You also need to be able to figure out where the business is headed by analyzing statistics. Your statistical skills deserve a special place on a blogging resume. Here are some experiences you can use to demonstrate the statistical skills you have:

  • Tracking and analyzing social media campaign effectiveness or content with Google Analytics and Google Console
  • Basic SEO knowledge – usage of keywords, alt text, and meta descriptions to improve Google ranking of content
  • Understanding follower demographics and identifying peak times of audience activity using insights

Website Editing

If you have run your own blog for a while, you will have amassed a number of skills in website editing. Potential employers value bloggers who know how to do basic website editing. This saves everyone time spent contacting the IT team to solve minor issues. Here are some experiences you can use to highlight your website editing skills on your blogging resume:

  • Instances where you have used your basic HTML knowledge to solve problems
  • Adding and amending plugins onto WordPress sites
  • How you have amended WordPress themes to match the preferences of a client’s website
  • Removing or adding content to your website as needed

Video Editing

Video editing is a talent possessed by many bloggers. This skill will come in handy for you in your job search if you are into a job that involves vlogging, food blogging, or travel vlogging. You can emphasize your experience with video editing using iMovie to showcase your skills. If you create and edit videos for YouTube or TikTok accounts, you can use those experiences on your resume as well.

Copywriting

This is one of the most important skills that a blogging resume can boast. Copywriting is often the backbone of all websites. If the employer is looking for someone who can generate quality copy, you must let your resume emphasize experiences such as:

  • Creating and proofreading high-quality content for websites
  • Using Canva or equivalent tools to create supporting imagery
  • Delivering tailored key messages to target audiences using customized content
  • Employing research and data-gathering skills to verify the validity of content to the day
