So, what exactly should you do to be confident during your next job interview? Our career experts share their best interview tips with you through this article.
Overcome the jitters
If you keep thinking, “I’m going to fail” for a week before the job interview, you are manifesting negative energy. Instead, switch your attitude. Instead of thinking that you can’t get the job, think of all the reasons why you should get the job. Focus on your qualifications, skills, and attributes that make you the best candidate for the position.
Adapt to the situation
No one is born ready to face a serious job interview. Every job candidate has to adapt themselves in some way to come across as confident and charismatic during an interview. Stop thinking that you are deceiving the interviewers by acting confident. Whether you are an introvert or an extrovert, you will need to make some changes to your behavior to ooze confidence at your job interview.
Practice your answers
Do your research on common interview questions and study how you can answer them positively. These questions will differ according to your field of work and your country. So, be sure to search for questions specific to your situation. There are many types of questions you should prepare for, such as STAR questions, behavioral questions, technical questions, etc.
Look ready for the job
Have you ever heard of the saying, “Dress for the job you want”? When you are getting ready for a job interview, that is exactly what you must do. Choose your outfit a day or two before the interview day. Ensure that the clothes fit you well and are not too tight or baggy. A power outfit is an excellent confidence booster for most job seekers.
Nail the introduction
First impressions matter a lot when it comes to a job interview. Practice a firm handshake. On the interview day, you should enter the room confidently and make direct eye contact with the person you are talking to. Maintain a pleasant facial expression to send a positive message to your interviewer. The right postures too, convey confidence.
Invite conversation
You are attending this interview to build up a conversation with the employer. Therefore, you should avoid giving one-word answers. If the interviewer asks, “How are you?”, give a positive response. “OK, thanks” is not a response that invites conversation, but “I’m good, thanks. I hope you’re doing well too” will help you break the barrier between you and the interviewer.
Ask your own questions
But not while you are still being interviewed. Once the interviewer is done with their questioning, they will give you a chance to voice your questions. Answering “Nope, no questions,” is not the way to impress an employer. Have a list of questions prepared for this. The questions should be about related topics such as the job, the company, industry trends, and challenges for the business.
